Poppy baby is a straight or gathered A-line dress, with clean lines and a classic look that transcends years and seasons. Its buttoned shoulder straps make dressing baby quick and easy. Its minimalist style makes it an excellent basic for baby's wardrobe, to be customized according to your fabrics and desires.
The perfect pattern for beginners (or for stress-free sewing)
Poppy baby is the ideal pattern for a first baby or child garment sewing project. With very few pieces to cut and simple lines, it is designed to be accessible, even if you are new to sewing. Beginner sewers will appreciate its clarity and ease of assembly, while more experienced sewers will see it as a quick and stress-free project, ideal between two more technical sewing sessions.
Two versions in one pattern
The Poppy baby pattern is also a 2-in-1 model: it offers two variations to suit your desires or the season. The straight version, with its clean and timeless style, is perfect for a sober and chic silhouette. The gathered version, fuller, brings a touch of volume and lightness, perfect for fluid fabrics. Ideal for sewing several different dresses from a single pattern!
My Poppy baby versions
I've designed the Poppy baby pattern in several styles… now it's up to you to imagine yours!
For spring, I sewed a very simple straight dress in grey and white striped cotton from my stash (I love it, I also used it for a Late Summer baby overalls). I added a small decorative button on the front to add a touch of whimsy.
For summer, I envisioned two interpretations of the dress: the first, sewn in the straight version, is made of gauze (found at Centrakor, I fell in love with the print!), very pleasant to wear when it's hot. Its pattern does all the work: no need to do more. The second, in cotton poplin (Mondial Tissus), is sewn in the gathered version. Cotton poplin is ideal for summer, a great option if you like fabrics that are easy to sew and care for!
For autumn, the dress will be slipped under a cardigan, accompanied by tights. I sewed it in a lovely poplin found at Mondial Tissus, and I sewed two small wooden heart buttons on the front to add a charming little detail.
For winter, I chose a beautiful poly-viscose found at Cousette. The thicker fabric gives a nice drape to the straight version of the dress. I added a small bow on the front, perfect for giving it a festive look. This quick pattern can be sewn at the last minute and can save you the day before a dinner or a party!
